Why was the House and ground dissolving?

Why did Merz happen to us? What mistakes had been made? Had BT shared his information on Oświęcim of the late 1930s with others? 

Why wouldn't he share such information, did people survive world wars and genocides by themselves? It was not 2025, just packing school lunches the panacea for all problems.
