The reference to the Babri Masjid demolition of December 1992, when Antara was in her early teens, was not without reason. 

All of us, including Antara, had read enough about the 'madrasa' system of education in Pakistan's towns and cities, where apart from a heavy dose of anti-American and anti-Zionist rhetoric, a certain version of Wahhabi Islam was taught, which knew no other allegiance but Saudi Arabia.

It should have been the duty of the Indian national security apparatus to inform the Indian citizenry whether such Wahhabism was infiltrating 'madrasa' education in India as well. There used to be a time when Muslim religious leaders in India met the top executive to discuss reform in 'madrasa' education. It was unlikely such things were high on the priority list of Asansol AG Church.

Thus, Antara had no way of knowing if 'madrasas' in India had extremist views, if they were influenced by the religious bigotry of the mosques in London, where Pakistan-origin imams gave fiery speeches to the gathered. What if Indian 'madrasas' invited strong govt action in the future, if it became another Babri Masjid episode with repercussions for Antara, disobedient minorities getting a drubbing from the Indian State?

Try arguing for FACSIMILE blog in such a scenario. 

No, all we got in the present day was Waqf controversy over property (so legit lease) and about land (so German intelligence).

In the absence of transparency in govt policy over 'madrasas', Antara conducted her own investigations since she moved to Delhi. Islamic monuments in the farthest south of Delhi, close to the Gurgaon highway, showed strong Sufi tendencies but it seemed their politics had become captive to Italian fascism in the closing days of WWII, when Italy had become a puppet state of Nazi Germany.

It had to be INC work, ruining the medieval Indian Sufi tradition with the 1936 Berlin Olympics and the 'friends' INC had picked up there.

Elsewhere in Delhi, the 'madrasa' students seemed to have been drafted into the Numbers blackmail, controlled by Kolkata but their loyalty to the deposed Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Lucknow, who died in 1887, in Calcutta. 

We have spent a decade wondering what Antara would have for her meals. Where was Antara's formal apparatus to deal with the Indian 'madrasas' if they became the starting point for the next Holocaust, if the attack on Jews came not from within Pakistan but from India?

The Indian Govt would quietly encourage Asansol AG Church and the rest of us would sit and watch the next Holocaust unfold?
